the Volks Design & Research Consulting Ltd. is an awarded inter-disciplinary design practice based in Macau and China lead by Harvard Graduated Architect Manuel Lam. Manuel Lam, is the founder, the chief architect and creative director of the Volks Design. He holds a master degree from Harvard University GSD with experiences among top leading architecture and design firms such as Foster & Partners in London and Sasaki in Boston. He also serves as a visiting lecturer at the University of Saint Joseph Macau architecture department. He has been exhibition curator for Macau in the "16th Venice International Architecture Biennale". He has been awarded as M+ China Top 100 Luxury Interior Designer Award, Muse Design Awards, 40 Over 40 Outstanding Design Elite Award Macau, and has been identified as Top 36 Chinese Design Stars. Public Bathroom
The Bamboo Pavilion is a public renovation project that is designed to subvert the perception of a typical public bathroom in Macau, which is dirty, wet and smelly. The original facility was an enclosed building setting apart from the natural surroundings. The Bamboo Pavilion, a new design, is built on top of the existing structure and foundation. The idea is to reconnect the broken link between culture, human and nature in a public facility by reorganizing the plan to enhance functionalities and by applying bamboo-like construction tectonics to correspond with its natural surroundings.

Cantonese Tong Sui Dessert Store
Bowl Fantasy is an interior design project for a modern Cantonese Tong Sui store that serves sweet soup as a dessert. Entering the Tong Sui store is like wandering in space where fragments of bowls are scattered. Bowls fly around appear in different forms and shapes; they are folded and stacked into three-dimensional screen, or they are cut and rearranged as dynamic ceiling design, or even they are sliced and regrouped into giant chandeliers. It is like being in a magical palace sparking one's imagination and bringing out unlimited possibilities to this dining experience.

Public Bathroom
Ocean Vista is a public toilet renovation project located along the coastal trail at Coloane Macau on the hillside facing the ocean. By reorganizing the interior spatial layout and introducing new functional elements on top, the new design optimizes function of a public bathroom, and brings human closer to nature. The brown and reddish functional elements that adhere to existing structure are inspired by the rocks along the costal trail. The new viewing platform and seatings provide people a place to enjoy the ocean view and to observe the stars at night - it is an authentic public space.
